Direct Mail : Good Ways To Improve Response Rates
Any business owner who experiences success knows that this favorable situation is largely due to marketing and advertising. Potential clients and customers are bombarded daily quite frequently and in large quantities by advertisements, though, and it becomes somewhat difficult for businesses to stick out and be noticed by new people. Consumers hear ads on the television and radio and come across billboard announcements all the time, leading to a situation in which their minds almost automatically filter out the messages. Everyone, however, checks their mailbox, and direct mail is designed to reach consumers in this way. How can you improve response rates for direct mail? Creativity is one of the main ingredients of a piece of direct mail that actually gets read rather than tossed automatically in the trash. Most people simply pass right over the usual plain envelopes and fliers that announce a limited time offer or a chance to win an amazing prize. When an odd font or especially eye-catching photo is utilized, people tend to take a pause and become a reader. Change up the size of the mailer as well. Many pieces of direct mail are found in the typical postcard or envelope format. In order to get a response, businesses might want to pay a tad extra and break this mold. A large fold out poster or manila-style mailer might cost a little more, but these items will also intrigue potential customers more than the usual old stuff. Be sure to place some kind of printing on both sides of the piece as well. The address side of the mail is the first one people see, but too often it is blank. Grab attention right away with some sort of imagery. As creative as you might make the direct mail, it is still important to identify and evaluate what works. If only one method of mailings is utilized, it will then be difficult to notice if that specific method works. Split tests are a type of marketing in which a mailing list is split in two, and one of two types of direct mail is attached to each. Being sure to code each piece so that respondents of one particular type can be identified, it can then be determined which one is most effective and can be counted on in the future. Although we are a highly technological society, mail is still a large part of our lives. Direct mail is a great way for businesses to drum up customers. It is therefore very important to effectively utilize this method of doing so. Further reading – Direct Mail
